Are you literate?

Here’s a cool little infographic by Jared Fanning about the Top 10 Most Read Books in the World.  I will admit that I have read Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and the Da Vinci Code but have only read selected passages of the Bible.

My completed reading list might explain why we have a couple Harry Potter-themed strips like this one and this one, and several Lord of the Rings ones featuring Gandalf, Gollum, and a wandering Ent.  If you’ve poked your head into our store, you’ll have seen this LOTR-themed print.  I’m surprised that we’ve made it this far without making one Bible reference.  Let me tell you, those Biblical plagues were a riot.

We’re still figuring out how to get something funny from the Quotations from the Chairman Mao Tse-Tung.  How could we lose with something like the following?

I am hated by many, especially comrade Pang Dehuai, his hatred is so intense that he wished me dead. My policy with Pang Dehuai is such: You don’t touch me, I don’t touch you; You touch me, I touch you.

 Comedy gold, no?

You do so have a Biblical reference! Noah’s Park!

Very true. I blame the Neal for forgetting it. His penalty shall be fire, brimstone, and seventeen Hail-Mary passes.

  • Rhee

That ought to do nicely, though the regimen I’d suggest is a plague of boils followed by restraint under the hot sun while a caterpillar eats what little shade there is, and finishing with a re-enactment of the Spanish Inquisition.

  • MoogkSoulis

Only if Mel Brooks will sing ‘the Inquisition’. Great, now I’ve got an ear worm.
