Word On The Street takes place one Sunday every September in Vancouver, Kitchener, Toronto and Halifax. Word On The Street is billed as “a national celebration of literacy and the written word,”* and it does a darn good job of living up to this claim. Presentations and workshops are accompanied by some high quality author events; Kitchener brought in Margaret Atwood as part of its celebration. I was proud to be among the booksellers and independent authors that lined Jubilee Drive in Kitchener’s Victoria Park.
Julia Adams submitted the above caption. I had to kick myself because when she first looked at the illustration she said: “you should have made that a pig.” She later returned after some thought and submitted her caption that plays nicely on the ‘when pigs fly’ phrase. An honourable mention goes out to Deb Schuchardt who wrote:
“Ha! Ha! When he comes back it’s my turn.”
Her caption encapsulates perfectly the innocence childhood; I love it.
Connor’s entry in the colouring contest won him a family pass for the Waterloo Central Railway.
You can find more pictures from Word On The Street, pictures from past events and other bonus stuff on the Facebook fan page for PostScript Comic.
Stay funny.
