Stan Rogers

From our earliest family road trips we were exposed to the music of Stan Rogers, a Canadian folksinger who was wise beyond his years and who left us much too early.  He died 30 years ago today in plane accident.  One of his songs, “Barrett’s Privateers“, inspired the name for our Barrett.  As you listen to this song, imagine two kids, 4 and 8 belting out the song on a family road trip.

Songs are wonderful ways to tell stories.  The best songs amaze, amuse and inspire us.  They stick in our head and carry us through the milestones of our life.  Stan Rogers was one of the best.

To this day I cannot hear the words Northwest Passage with out starting to sing softly to myself: “Ah, for just one time…”

Agreed. He could fit an entire novel into every song. To this day, I cannot hear the words Northwest Passage without starting to sing softly to myself: “Ah, for just one time…”

CBC (Canada’s national channel) did a bit on him and the 30th rememberance of his death. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfLXTCQWd1s
